Chicago Jesuits Honor BVMs
at 175th Jubilee Event

by Mira Mosle, BVM

The Chicago Province of the Society of Jesus, long-time friends and partners with the BVM congregation, invited BVMs in the Chicago area to a celebration of the SJ/BVM heritage with liturgy and dinner on March 25.

Beginning with Mass in the recently renovated Madonna della Strada Chapel at Loyola University, President Michael Garanzini, SJ and Jesuit rector Dan Hartnett, SJ thanked the Sisters for their many contributions.

In her homily, BVM Mary Pat Haley identified continuity, change, urgency and joy as new directions for both the BVMs and Jesuits.

An elegant social and dinner in Mundelein Center included time for story telling and re-connection. Fr. Garanzini announced that the BVM congregation has been recognized by the Chicago City Council, and that the 100-1200 blocks of West Sheridan Road will be declared honorary "Sisters of the Blessed Virgin Mary Road."

BVMs were filled with gratitude for the entire celebration, so thoughtful and beautiful in every way.
