BVM Associate Mary Kay Craig recently received the first Montana Human Rights Award from the state’s Amnesty International members.  Called “a tireless peace and human rights activist,” Craig’s award is “a recognition of a lifetime achievement and recognition of selfless concern for others.”

Fran Donnelly, BVM received the B. Charles Tierney Award given to a long-time employee of the Archdiocese of St. Paul-Minneapolis.  Fran is director of the Center for Ministry and co-vicar of religious.  The award is given for “qualities of faith, high honor, generosity of spirit, abundant good will and gifts of service.”

BVM Catherine Dunn’s announcement that she will step down as president of Clarke College at the end of the 2006 academic year precipitated a Dubuque Telegraph-Herald editorial that “Dubuque will lose one of its great leaders… Dunn did not just make Clarke College a better place.  She made Iowa better.  She shattered barriers as the first woman to head the state’s transportation board.  She has a wheelbarrow load of hardware, somewhere, from all the accolades she has received from the governor, fellow educators, the Chamber of Commerce and this newspaper.  All the awards on the self can’t sum up the leadership void that will exist when she moves on to greener hills.”

Mary Ann Hoope, BVM (Bernarde Marie) was a representative to the Synod of the Archdiocese of Kumasi, Ghana.  She also served on the Synod Preparatory and Steering Committees.

Rosemarie Lorentzen’s, BVM (St. Carol) retirement as executive director of Hesed House in Aurora, Ill., was marked by a feature in the Chicago Tribune.  “In the eyes of the homeless people Lorentzen served, she’s a hero,” the author writes.  She’s “leaving a big imprint on the region...,” “She has completely transformed what was once a city garbage incinerator into a bustling home to the homeless… building a model for the nation…. She pushed legislation through Springfield allowing homeless children to stay in their home school district.”

Julie O’Neill, BVM has been presented the Frederick Ozanam Award for her work with the St. Vincent de Paul Society at St. Veronica Parish, South San Francisco, Calif.  “She continually raises awareness in the parish of the needs of the homeless and those recently released from incarceration.”  Julie is also on the parish staff as coordinator of religion education.

BVM Associate Nancy Van Anne has been selected as a charter member of the School of Health, Physical Education and Leisure Service’s Hall of Excellence at the University of Northern Iowa.  The Hall recognizes graduates “who have distinguished themselves as professionals.”  Nancy is currently co-director of the BVM Associate community.

Lynn Winsor, BVM was recently appointed chairwoman of the Arizona State University Alumni Assn.  Her primary goal is to reach out to as many of ASU’s 25,000 alums as possible.  Lynn is Xavier College Prep’s vice-principal and athletic director.
