Susan Ross, PhD, professor, Theology (center) and Bren Murphy, PhD, Director, Women's Studies program give Carolyn fun gifts.

It was a retirement party to remember! With friends and colleagues gathered to thank and celebrate Carolyn Farrell, BVM (Lester) on her retirement from Loyola University, Chicago, President Michael Garanzini, SJ announced the creation of an endowed chair in Women's Studies at the Gannon Center. It will be named after Farrell in gratitude for her work at the University.

The University and donors will make possible the $2 million chair; it will begin in Fall 2007.

Carolyn has been an Associate Vice President of Loyola University, Chicago, and Director of the Ann Ida Gannon, BVM Center for Women and Leadership for the past 15 years, after serving as interim president of Mundelein College as it transitioned to affiliation with Loyola.

Appreciative remarks were also offered by John Frendreis, provost; Mary E. Hunt, co-director of Women's Alliance for Ethics and Ritual; and Bren Murphy, director, Women's Studies program.

“She has accomplished a great deal, including the renovation of Piper Hall into a beautiful state-of-the-art center for women's studies, archives, and leadership training,” said Hunt. “This on-going legacy of Mundelein College and the Sisters of Charity, BVM plays a pivotal role at Loyola and is a model for other universities.”
