The golf team trophy case at Xavier College Prep in Phoenix is filled with awards, but Lynn Winsor, BVM needs her own display case! She has received the highest award presented by the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Assn. (NIAAA), the Award of Merit, for “outstanding leadership in interscholastic athletics or related fields.” In 28 years, she is only the second woman to be selected for this honor. The NIAAA's more than 6,000 members represent more than 20,000 athletic administrators of U.S. high schools. “This is the biggest award an athletic director/administrator can receive,” said Lynn . “I am shocked and humbled at receiving it. To be honored by one's peers is always thrilling. I am proud for Xavier, the diocese and the BVMs.” She has been a leader within Arizona and nationally for almost 30 years in her dual role as golf coach and athletic director at Xavier. A charter member of the Arizona state organization, in 2005 Lynn was inducted into the NIAAA Hall of Fame after years of serving on the board, as an officer and national delegate. She has also served on the NIAAA board, as president and on various committees, and received the organizations' Distinguished Service Award in 2000. Over the years, Lynn has given 47 presentations in 19 states on topics related to girls athletics and high school athletic administration, and authored 16 articles. She has established the most successful girls' high school golf program in the U.S. Her teams have won 25 of 27 Arizona Interscholastic Assn. state championships and finished runner-up in the other two. Lynn is the recipient of nine coaching awards, has been inducted into four halls of fame, and was selected Girls High School Golf Coach of the Century by the AIA. Return
